Message
from the Chair
By: Susan Harris
ASQ Sacramento Section #0605
Time flies when you're having
fun! We have had a fun filled and
eventful year in the Sacramento 605 section of ASQ this year. We had a
great turnout at all of the programs (averaging over 40 participants);
enjoyed touring the DST Output Technologies and Blue Diamond Almond
Companies and learned many things including how to tell someone your
name with impact (don't forget the pause and punch at the end).
My time as your chair is now coming to an end. Your new board will take
over the reins the first of July and start planning the programs for the
2006/2007 year. I know they've already got a few great ideas.
I appreciate the opportunity I have had to serve as your chair this past
year and look forward to your continued support of the organization.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the members of the board
for their effort in making this a very successful year! Thank You.

ISO 9001:2000 and URAC Accreditation
Requirements Overview & Implementation Successes & Challenges

Delta Dental of California, Building B, 1st Floor
11155 International Drive - Rancho Cordova, CA 95670
Has your organization decided to pursue ISO registration or URAC accreditation? Have you been asked to lead the effort or be involved? Are you interested in what ISO and URAC can do for your organization? Or maybe you just want to find out what everyone is talking about? Whatever the reason, we are sure you will enjoy this month’s program which includes an ISO & URAC requirements overview and lessons-learned from two project managers who successfully led these initiatives in a local healthcare organization: Health Net Federal Services (HNFS).
HNFS achieved ISO 9001:2000 registration and three URAC accreditations in an 18-month period using the standards to both improve its business and incorporate industry best practices. It was important to the company that the standards be fully “built-in” to its business management system. By the end of the evening, you will learn the company’s approach to design and implement and understand the positive impact these initiatives had on HNFS.
We start the program with a 45-minute workshop that will describe the ISO and URAC standards, how they apply in a health care environment and highlight how they complement each other. After dinner, the presentation will describe the company’s approach to design and implement the quality management system that is compliant to both standards, and all within a restricted timeframe. Our presenters will describe successes achieved and lessons learned from implementing these two initiatives in a healthcare setting.
